Some things I did not know when I first thought to myself ‘hey, I wonder if I could just cut my own hair’:

1. Yes.

2. The back is a lot harder than I’d hoped. Highly recommend trying this at a time of year when you can wear scarves.

3. The internet is surprisingly helpful in this instance. Particularly the bangs issue.

4. Setting a twenty minute cutoff will help prevent a ‘Lucy trimming the Christmas tree’ situation.

5. There will be hair everywhere. Forever. Just when you think you’ve finally cleaned up all the stray hairs, you’ll look in the mirror and think ‘hey, I could use a trim.’

[Note: I have short hair and don’t ask much of it other than being short. I don’t really know what I want it to look like, so it’s hard to tell stylists what I want. If I’m going to spend $50 and walk away thinking ‘eh, it’s fine,’ I figure I might as well *not* spend $50 and think the same thing, with the added bonus of feeling a little more empowered.]
