small victories

So Duolingo has leagues, which are neat but random, and there's a bunch of them. I was very happy in the Amethyst league, because purple, but was perfectly content to get bumped up into the Pearl league, because pink is nice too, and the name was cool. (Leagues are basically 'the rules are made up and the points don't matter,' but they sometimes motivate me to pick doing lessons over staring off into the middle distance, so that's a nice perk.)

By accident, one week I got promoted into the Obsidian league, which was disappointing to me because it has a vaguely 'wasn't the Obsidian Order a Star Trek villain?' feel to it. (The internet informs me that the Obsidian Order was in fact a Cardassian intelligence agency. Not having followed all of the twists and turns of plot, I'm not sure if that means I should apologize for calling them villains. Then again, wasn't that gray area basically of one of the core messages of DS9?)

ANYWAY. For various reasons, this was a good week to push to get out of Obsidian and into the Diamond league. And in approximately ten hours I'll find out if it worked!

I mean "Go, Diamond Marci!" Not "Go diamond, Marci!"

The Obsidian Order was less an intelligence agency and more the dark side of the CIA - assassinations and adjustments.
