caturday chocolate

Amidst ::gestures at 2020:: all of this, my favorite breakfast chocolate bar was discontinued. (To be fair, it was probably discontinued in 2019, or even 2018 -- the expiration date on the boxes I was ordering remained the same for a suspiciously long time, so it was pretty clear they weren't making more of it.)

But I miss it! And after several months of telling myself I'd just get over it -- completely unsuccessful strategy -- I finally just bought myself some chocolate bars at the grocery store. I will now quest to find a new acceptable breakfast chocolate!

(Look, food is gross in the morning. It helps to start by eating something easy: one taste, one texture, preferably breakable into small pieces so I can just pop them into my mouth without paying attention. Minimize decision-making and sensory stimulation, but still ingest some calories. It's either breakfast chocolate, or my brain refuses to eat anything, and then I'm hungry AND cranky.)

First up: Endangered Species 72% Dark Chocolate

Initial reaction: Pretty good! It breaks well along the lines, which is always so pleasing. Not very creamy. Supports chimpanzee conservation!

Do you have an Aldi near you? I like their Moser Roth chocolate, which is Fairtrade, but cheaper than many of the other Fairtrade alternatives. I, too, like to start the day with a little bit of chocolate (85% for me!)
