UPDATE TIME!

The timeline:

*October 3: identified that there was some sort of potential issue with the thermostat/furnace, put in a maintenance ticket

*October 9: repair person (definitely named Tim; I confirmed this yesterday talking with someone who was not Tim) showed up, looked at furnace, looked at thermostat, said they would replace thermostat on 10/13

*October 26: after two weeks of nothing, I put in a second maintenance ticket, explaining that further experimentation has showed that the heat functions, but simply stays about six degrees below whatever the thermostat is set to -- clearly a manageable issue, and if they wanted to say that's within normal function for the system, I was fine with that and would cancel the tickets

*October 26: within 30 minutes had a text that simply said 'I will send Tim over to check' (NOTE THAT I HAVE NEVER GOTTEN A TEXT BEFORE; WHAT IS THIS? I THOUGHT IT WAS A WRONG NUMBER!!!)

*October 27: Tim showed up, and did the MOST hilarious double-take at the door (he was all 'you! your thermostat... I was going to replace it... I completely forgot' -- he had the whole conversation with himself; I was not required to participate)

So NOW I am back to where I was before -- awaiting a promised new thermostat. (I did explain AGAIN that if he thought a six degree gap was within normal functioning, I was fine with it. He explained that since a maintenance ticket existed, he had to replace it. I did not mention that this didn't seem to have bothered him for the two weeks he spent forgetting about it.)
