I did try to be nice about it.

I had a somewhat bizarre conversation with a customer at work today. She was *very* upset (read: angry) that her usual line of products had changed their formulas. So I told her the whole story about how the company was founded by this one guy who was really passionate about keeping the formulas the same, and that he had passed away several years ago, and just recently the company started making changes.

Customer: “So the original owner isn’t even involved at all anymore?”
Me: “Well… no. Because he’s dead.”

I thought maybe I hadn’t been clear about the whole dead part when I first explained it. But no, she got it, she just didn’t think that was a good excuse for reformulating a product line.
