fic rec re-do

WAIT wait wait, this morning I SUDDENLY REALIZED the line I should have used for the quote for my fic rec yesterday, so I'm doing the rec again.

what was once your pain (will be your home), by Jenrose

“You made him soup,” Jiang Wanyin suddenly looked very tired. “Of course you did. What the fuck.”

what once was your pain (will be your home), by Jenrose

Wei Wuxian frowned at the knife, brow furrowed. “You’re just… handing me your knife.”

Wen Zhuliu resisted rolling his eyes but it was a close thing. “You have a large resentful sword. It’s not as if you could not have already killed me.”

These tags deserve a rec all on their own:
'Wen Zhuliu takes 'be prepared' to another level' 'But nothing could prepare him for Wei Wuxian'

Christmas Bonus, by wording

"You're making pancakes?" he said after a second of staring, his brain still coming online.

"We're gonna need the carbs if we're gonna shovel a metric fuckton of snow," Jason said with a grimace, shaking another pancake from the pan and onto the plate.

I spent much of the week spiraling finishing up my library bingo card reading, and then did a big catch-up last night of all the fic updates that I was lovingly collecting in my inbox.

White Ribbon, Red Silk, by deliciousblizzardshark

“Brother suggested that if we were to have a good—” he tripped over the word. Despite everything that had happened it was still hard to use it, to believe it. “— marriage we must communicate honestly.” He looked up at Wei Ying, who was staring at him a little incredulously.

Wei Ying pauses in his nervous chewing to blink at him, impressed. “You’re really confident today.”

“It’s your fault.” He grins back. “You gave me standards and now I’m everybody’s problem.

“What are you doing here, Deadpool?” he asks, shoving his guilt aside to address the problem at hand.

Deadpool squeals and fans himself, bouncing on his toes. “Oh. Em. Gee! He’s heard of us! Oh wow, I’m not prepared for this. Maybe we should— No, you’re right, you’re right. Play it cool. We’ve got this.”

cascade:只缘身在此山中, by auberjing

“Lan-laoshi, ah,” Wei Ying says. He's smiling now, a watery smile, but a real one. “Being in your class, hearing you read the four classics aloud… it had a calming effect on me. I'll never forget what you did for me. It's actually why I went into teaching, you know. I hoped that someday, I might be like you. And then I’d be able to do the same, to help all of the other kids like me.”

The Armor You Wear, by deliciousblizzardshark

He'd come because the Jedi had said the child missed him, stuck around because the child had looked up at him with those big pleading eyes. The Jedi also had big pleading eyes. He'd looked up at Djarin through his lashes, telling him that the child missed him and that he needed stability after so much upheaval.

Mud and Canvas, by StormsBreadth

Yiling Laozu was one of the biggest characters on the Sunshot LARP field. He made his own faction, raised an army of the dead, and was single-handedly responsible for destroying the yin iron economy. Unfortunately his actions caused no end of problems for the game runners - so after Yiling Laozu’s death, his player Wei Ying was very firmly asked to leave the game. Four years and a change of management later, and Wei Ying is back! Only difference - rather than being let loose on the field again, he’s crewing now and playing a stream of NPC zombies, merchants and diplomats.

While he's barred from raising the dead, he still has plenty of time for important out of character shenanigans, including but not limited to avoiding his family, poking electrical wires, corrupting the youth, and bothering Lan Zhan.

One year, four events, and a tale of campfires, love and live action roleplaying.

Lan Zhan's University Days (a table lacking in corners), by sami

Arthur also doesn't seem worried. It's a warm day. He's wearing denim cutoffs and a tight sleeveless white shirt that says born to be a king, chose to be a queen in pink glitter.

He sits beside her in class and pulls the smallest knife she's ever seen out of his pocket, then passes the time whittling the end of one of her pencils into a tiny, tiny lion. The lecturer doesn't seem to notice.

不忘 | Don't Forget, by dragongirlG

Wei Wuxian blows out a breath, putting his hair up in a messy ponytail as he recalls his first few days in the modern world. They'd been disastrous even by his standards, but he thinks anyone else would have reacted with just as much terror and confusion. Somehow, over two millennia had passed since Wen Chao threw him into the Burial Mounds, and cultivation had become an ancient myth mentioned only in obscure history books. No one had a golden core anymore, and talismans were sold as good luck charms but held no real power. Spiritual techniques had been replaced by waves and waves of technological innovation.

Wei Wuxian hadn't been able to recognize a single thing around him.
