apparently it’s a thing now
Aug. 5th, 2011 12:31 pmWhy am I drawn to watch movies I know will be terrible? I have no idea. Last night I watched “GI Joe: Rise of Cobra,” and yeah, it was as awful as everyone said.
I figured I’d have no problem getting past the “based on toys” premise, because — hello, I watched Power Rangers. And yet, no, I really got stuck on it. I kept getting distracted by these flashbacks of boys from my elementary school playing with GI Joes on the playground.
I also had a bit of trouble because I sort of assumed that the shapeshifting bad guy was going to replace Hawk, and did it while he was in the hospital, so after that I always assumed Hawk was evil. Which — as you might imagine — made the second half of the movie a little more confusing.
It’s hard to put into words quite how bad this movie is, and I definitely thought about stopping it about ten minutes in, but now I have seen it and can identify with much more accuracy names that come from GI Joe canon. Though, why I would ever want or need to do that, I’m still unclear on.
