Be a Goldfish WEEK 8
Feb. 25th, 2026 08:41 pmBe a Goldfish WEEK 8: Favorite Character Fiesta
As previously mentioned, my first idea was to crochet a 'quick' lap blanket in Perihelion's colors for The Murderbot Diaries. That's been slow going, even though it's also been a lot of fun.
Then
xinger and I were talking about Week 8 ideas, and I said maybe I'd just post the blanket as a WIP, and they suggested what about a collage of WIP pics?
TA-DA!!!

I'd like to imagine that someone on Peri's crew might decide the way to make Murderbot feel welcome on its first (official) mission is to hand-crochet a blanket for it like this one. Because fiber arts are probably a big Preservation thing, and doing it in Perihelion's colors is symbolic of bringing the two groups of people together, or something like that. Also it's very soft. And someday it will be larger than a wide scarf / narrow shawl!

Beautiful collage by
starandrea celebrating this glorious kitchen adventure!

[image description: Three photographs of a mug of raktajino and ingredients, surrounded by quotes. From top to bottom: 1. "You're the second person to order that today. What is it?" 2. That's actually surprisingly delicious. 3. You really can put garlic in anything. 4. I tried it without molasses first, and it wasn't quite weird enough. The molasses helped. 5. RAKTAJINO 6. Still not sure I can taste the liquid smoke. 7. "Coffee that's forged in battle and sweetened with the blood of my enemies."]
The Full Adventure:

*Day 2
*Day 3 (with full recipe)

Because sometimes you realize that you have very little ginger and garlic on hand relative to the (somewhat alarming) amount of molasses and liquid smoke you now own. (Maybe that's just me?)
aka: The day 3 recipe was great, but this one's easier!

Also a BONUS PROMPT! (Bonus Three: Tactile Touchables Tea Party)
I crocheted some wristies (aka fingerless gloves) inspired by the hockey boys (aka Heated Rivalry)!

I've done crochet wristies before, but this was my first fannish attempt.

workaday Tuesday
Jan. 28th, 2025 07:37 amYesterday I was copied on an email in which a coworker (unironically) used the phrase "I hope this email finds you well," and I (metaphorically) nearly fell off my chair. I BOGGLED.
starandrea assures me that this is a normal phrase people use in emails. I thought it was always a joke!
So then (of course!) I wanted to go find the thing I remembered from tumblr: I hope this email doesn't find you

Art by body-of-ouches; based on a tweet from
sickofwolves.
(Note: I tripped down the rabbit hole of reading some of the comments, and apparently the vibes hit very differently for different people. It feels hopeful to me. And also funny, but I realize that my brain does tend to automatically remix everything as humor, so that may not be the best indicator.)
