Time to rewatch the fireworks simulation video!

Remember the take care cats today!

Back in 2017 I made up the Christmas socks tradition (aka I get myself a new pair of socks for Christmas). I haven't exactly followed it every year, because some years I haven't really needed/wanted any more socks, and some years I wound up buying socks not at Christmas.

But this year! This year, I have new socks for Christmas! Mmm, warm cozy socks. What a nice thing to be able to celebrate today!

A couple weeks ago, we stopped in at our in-town tiny grocery store for some snacks, and the employees were all 'hello! welcome! would you like to put in your order for a CHRISTMAS QUICHE?'

Of course, we had no idea what they were talking about, but the basics seemed to be as follows:

*there's an employee who makes quiches for the store at the holidays
*they are very popular
*they sold out last year and people were sad
*this year the store is taking orders
*they are excited about it

So OF COURSE we put in our order! And it's supposed to be available to pick up today? Maybe they will call or text us? They have my phone number, but it's not like we got any actual instructions about this process. And yet I'm very excited about it!

WHAT AN EXCITING NEW THING TO LEARN ABOUT THIS TOWN!
marcicat: keep calm it's christmas (keep calm it's christmas)
*I found a candle yesterday! AND I found a candle warmer in the same box -- one of those things where there's no flame, you just melt wax using the heat of a tiny light bulb to get the nice candle smell. I had completely forgotten I owned such a thing, so it was like a little extra gift just for me!

*Today's advent craft project is finishing the woobles hedgehog kit that I started back in... (okay, I had to go check my email to see when I even purchased it, and it turns out it was August 2024, which is a LOT longer ago than I thought) WHO KNOWS, obviously sometime between August 2024 and December 2025. It's about halfway done? I think? Again, WHO KNOWS. But it's gonna GET DONE today!

*Scone for breakfast!

I lucked into taking this entire week off from work, so I've been trying to celebrate a little bit each day. A series of small celebrations feels like it takes the pressure off the Actual Christmas Day to be super special and perfect somehow (a goal which is neither reasonable to want nor possible to achieve, to borrow that phrase).

Yesterday I went to the grocery store for the Final Shopping Trip (hopefully!) before Christmas. I had bacon for lunch! I caught up on the craft advent calendar! I went for a walk I've been meaning to take all month! I used one of our holiday-themed paper plates! I stayed up late reading!

And now it's solstice! Time to light a candle! (okay, time to find a candle? I'm sure there are some around here somewhere)

(I've used this subject line before, apparently, and I did not go check what I said then. Was it last week??? That would be funny.)

ANYWAY it is the final weekend before Christmas, and that means:

...Yeah, time to catch up on my craft advent calendar. I set it up to be 12 days, with the goal of one lil' project every other day, and now it is the 20th and I have five projects left to go, lol. So, more like one a day! I GOT THIS.

Thank goodness we're now required to go to the office two days a week, to do Very Important Office Things like everything on today's schedule!

1. drink the free coffee at work instead of home coffee

2. breakfast (enjoy the fact that they're still bribing us with free breakfast on Tuesdays)

3. end of year team meeting with the team we've been temporarily loaned to (okay, it was more like 'take these people off my hands I can't deal with them right now,' but you know, think positive)

4. end of year holiday lunch with new team

5.Yankee Swap with new team (apologies to the old team which is not getting a party)

6. go for a walk with any office folks who want to go outside

7. hour-long meeting about a thing none of us want to talk about and which could have been an email

8. wrap up the day, because that's more than enough productivity for me!

It is CROCHET WEEKEND, LET'S GO!

(Okay, there are actually a lot of other things I want to do too? I have a list. It's much too long, and I haven't really come to any conclusions about how to manage that. I'm pretty sure reading fanfic for the next hour won't help, but I may give it a try anyway! For science.)
marcicat: stress out and throw vase (stress out and throw vase)
*Shoutout to the business along my commute route with the Giant Christmas Inflatables. It's your brontosaurus eating a candy cane that's motivating me to get out the door this morning!

Honorable mentions to the following, also providing me workaday motivation:

*I'll be starting the hockey boys audiobook this morning, carplay willing. After an entire day of thinking about it, the anticipation is really building!

*It's holiday lunch day at work. So, free lunch! Hooray! In honor of the event, I'm wearing my cozy holiday sweatshirt. (It has Christmas trees on it.)

Almost all my Black Friday sales orders have arrived! Still waiting on:

*One package that keeps updating the 'estimated delivery date' to whatever day it currently is, but was last scanned somewhere in Ohio. (I have concerns.)

*One skein of yarn that for some reason shipped separately from the others? But it's in the right state and in the hands of the postal service, so I'm pretty confident.

*One Very Large yarn order (it was SUCH a good sale!) that's currently somewhere in Florida, also in the hands of the postal service. They can take their time with that one, since it's for a summer blanket (or two!) I'm planning, and there's not actually anywhere to store all that yarn right now. ::coughs:: I'm working on it?

*IT SNOWING

*which means it's a SNOW DAY! (totally a snow day even though it's just a few tiny flurries)

*time for the VERY IMPORTANT snow day accessories!

*PAJAMAS

*COZY BLANKETS

*and the VERY IMPORTANT snow day snacks!

*COFFEE

*FRENCH TOAST STICKS

*and the VERY IMPORTANT snow day activities!

*CROCHET

*AUDIOBOOKS

I love advent calendars in general, and this year I have THREE:

1. COFFEE: mmmm, delicious coffee advent calendar. There's a bunch out there, this is my second year of the Door County Coffee one.

2. DIGITAL: so easy to store! The family has gifted each other the Jacquie Lawson advent calendar for years.

3. CRAFTY: I re-used the 2024 Woobles advent calendar box to put in my own small craft projects (mostly crochet and diamond painting). I wasn't sure if I'd love this one, but so far it's been great!
marcicat: (christmas tree 2010)
Ahhh, nothing like the first day of a month -- so fresh! so new! so full of potential!

my Musical Victory this holiday season:

*After literal YEARS of thinking I had the song 'We Need A Little Christmas' sung by Johnny Mathis, and being disappointed that I didn't, I have PURCHASED THE SONG!

*This is a lot harder than it used to be? I do not want the three-month trial period of cloudtunes or whatever, just take my one dollar and twenty-nine cents and give me the song, please!

*Since I managed to figure it out, I also purchased 'Driving Home for Christmas' sung by Chris Rea. That should cover me for new Christmas tunes for another few years or so!

*total goal word count: 25,000

*current total words: 16,000(ish?)

*still only three files, thank goodness

*there's always a shift around this time when I stop thinking 'oh no what if there's not enough words?!?' to 'oh no what if I can't wrap it up in time!?!'

*and then it usually shifts back again a few thousand words from the finish line

*non-writing note: time to wear my Thanksgiving 5K sweatshirt to the office, since it's the last office day before the holiday, woohoo!

*last sentence written: You are meant to be drawing attention.

1. In a final celebration of Halloween, here's that dragons carving pumpkins comic I was talking about yesterday (I had all the names wrong, lol): "I did Rin eating her pumpkin,", by pocketss

2. LET'S WRITE!!! I'm going for a half-nano this year (25,000 words), and so far I have... ::checks file:: 183 words. Okay, that's a start!

3. Tis the season!
Halloween to Christmas meme
marcicat: (moon with clouds)
Most times of year:
'hey, it looks like the neighbors just nailed a skeleton to their door and put a gravestone that says 'KEEP OUT' in the front yard' would be a VERY CONCERNING STATEMENT

At Halloween:
Not concerning, but heartwarming! So nice to see the neighbors really embracing that community spirit!

Other Very Exciting Halloween Notes This Year:
*the house with the dragon now has TWO dragons! aww, they are friends! <3

*my absolute fave inflatable is back! dinosaur with witch hat and jack-o-lantern: Maximum Halloween!

*one of the houses that Really Gets Into It has a new winged thing (genuinely no idea what it's supposed to be -- a wraith? a huge bat?) and the wings move, and it's very impressive!
marcicat: (heart dino)
This has been all over my tumblr dash, and luckily know your meme came to my rescue with the source.

Originating waaaaaay back in 2004, from the cartoon "Homestar Runner." (A thing I had never heard of, but apparently it was extremely meme-able.) Big 'early 2000s i can haz cheezburger' energy. (PS: wikipedia says that was 2007)

Video on youtube!

*a good weekend to avoid doing labor
