like Christmas without the stress

According to this handy website, the last time Juy 4th was on a Wednesday was back in 2007. (Honestly, I’d been hoping it would be longer ago than that, because it would have sounded way more impressive.) ((Also, 2007 wasn’t a great year for me — broke my foot, quit my job, totally wasn’t eligible for anything like “holiday pay” for stuff like Independence Day.))

But! This year I am loving the timing. Fourth of July is a low-stress holiday (no presents, and we get pizza for dinner!), plus the whole Wednesday thing means the WHOLE WEEK is basically accepted as a write-off at work. So far, so good.

movie review: The Amazing Spiderman

(That’s what this one is called, right? THE NEW SPIDERMAN MOVIE.)

1. Woohoo! NEW SPIDERMAN MOVIE!

2. Whoa, too many actual spiders! I had to cover my eyes. A lot.

3. Why is there never a convenient abandoned warehouse / construction zone around when *I* want to have a montage?

4. What even was going on with Flash Thompson? What even was going on with Gwen’s amazing ability to go to school (top of her class, at least in science, according to her), tutor Flash, hold down a job(?!) at OsCorp, and still sit down to family dinner? What even was going on with THE WHOLE MOVIE?

5. No, but really, other than the fact that it made no sense, it actually made more sense than the other Spiderman movies. In some ways. And Andrew Garfield’s hair certainly lived up to the hype.

6. I really wish they would make a movie about something other than Spiderman becoming Spiderman. Sort of like a “Superman Returns,” but you know, for Spiderman. I JUST FEEL SO BAD FOR AUNT MAY! I want to get past that awkward teenage part of Spidey’s life and watch a movie about him figuring stuff out and being awesome.
