WEIRD ANIMALS
Jul. 9th, 2014 06:51 amOn my commute to/from work, I pass a lot of buildings (businesses, churches, schools) that have those signs out front where you can change the letters to create a timely message.
(One, for a salon/spa type place, said for more than a month: WILL THE MULLET EVER MAKE A COMEBACK)
We actually had three of these kind of signs at my last job, and it was a constant challenge coming up with stuff to put on them. I learned that I am not very clever without access to punctuation. But now I tend to notice them more when I am out and about.
Anyway, one church that I drive by recently changed its sign to say: GOD’S IRRESISTIBLE INVITATION (They have punctuation, which actually is pretty important in this phrase, I’m guessing.)
Even with the punctuation, I was a little confused by this message. And then I noticed they had a banner hanging up near the sign! I figured it would surely offer clarity.
WEIRD ANIMALS!
Yes, that’s what the banner says. There’s a picture too, presumably of weird animals. It looks like it’s some kind of event? (It’s hard to read while I’m driving.) It’s just that it all sort of flows together to my eye when I’m going past, and I wind up with: GOD’S IRRESISTIBLE INVITATION — WEIRD ANIMALS!
Which I guess is probably as good an argument as any, really.
