At my workplace, we have many meeting rooms. Well, six. Sort of. It’s a number that somehow seems to be constantly in flux, which is fine, in a workplace gothic sort of way.

And all most some of the meeting rooms have big wall-mounted computer screens and a webcam, so that when you have a meeting that includes people off-site, you can all see each other to make sure no one is having too much fun. And I happened to be in one such room, having one such meeting, this week.

Now, most of the webcams are directly *below* the computer screen, which is weird because everybody always looks like they’re looking up at something above the screen, even though they are really looking right at the screen. BUT! The room I was in had the webcam directly *above* the screen, which turned out to be So Much Weirder.

Mostly in the sense that I was 10,000% distracted for the entire meeting by viewing myself from above. (And the other people in the room, but yeah, mostly me.) The gray in my hair is much more obvious from above! Also, am I completely incapable of sitting still? ALSO, there was a slight delay in the video feed, which I kept trying to test and then remembering too late that *other people could see me.*

I mean, I had a blast, but I was technically supposed to be leading facilitating keeping the meeting from trailing off into an indecisive and uncomfortable silence, so probably I should have tried to be less distracted. On the other hand, it did keep me awake and reminded me not to take too many face journeys, so probably it balanced out.
