marcicat: (cat with heart)
It turns out that when my brain is using up a lot of brain space thinking about something else, it's really hard for me to focus on fic, even reading. It's like, in a time of uncertainty, I can only commit to short things. An 800-word fic? PERFECT. An 8000 word fic? Sounds good; I'll bookmark it. For later.

So, what to do when my brain wants a distraction, but not TOO MUCH of a distraction? Remember waaaaay back in 2014? Oh yeah, it's the 2048 game. (Note: I play 2048 like I play computer solitaire -- quickly, and with absolutely zero strategy. I've never gotten to 2048. But it's still fun.)

When I want something slower that I'll actually think about, the phone app WordJong has been well worth the $1.99 I paid for it years ago. I appreciate that you can pick up tiles and put them back with zero penalty. Sometimes I like to ponder my options! I also like that there's one game a day, so I can play and win and feel accomplished and then move on. (I mean, you can go back and play as much as you want, but there's a sense of completing a task with just a single game, and I'm willing to take the route of tricking my brain into feeling happy if that's what it takes.)
