in retrospect, they were not wrong

To all of the teachers, parents, and various other adults of my childhood who told me (repeatedly) that loud shrieking during play was quite alarming to those who could hear it, I owe you an apology. I'm very sorry. I pretended to agree with you, but secretly I thought the difference between a happy-playing-shriek and a needs-assistance-shriek *must* be obvious.

It is not.

There are multiple children in the apartment complex, and they enjoy playing outdoors, which is great! But I have (repeatedly) gone to the window to check on them due to 'sounds like a horror movie' levels of shrieking. Luckily, several of the kids are young enough that parents go out with them, and I figure they're on shriek-check duty any time they're out there.

Anyway! The more you know, huh?
