I'm not ready for Christmas songs yet!
Jun. 2nd, 2020 05:46 amMy most surreal experience yet during this pandemic: a couple weeks ago, I went grocery shopping. (That was not the weird part.). Anyway, this happened:
*I was at the grocery store in the middle of a Friday morning.
*The first actual hot day of the year. (As in, over 80F degrees.)
(*With a mask, because pandemic.)
*Headed into Memorial Day Weekend, the unofficial start of summer.
*Everything is super weird already, because it's 2020, and this year has Really Committed to the theme.
*And as I was scanning groceries through the self-checkout, I realized the music that's playing over the store speakers was a CHRISTMAS SONG. (The one where they ran into each other at the grocery store Christmas Eve, they drink in the car, she married an architect, the snow turns into rain -- that one. The internet tells me it's called "Same Old Lang Syne," by Dan Fogelberg.)
*I looked around, trying to figure out if anyone else was hearing the same thing, but no one was paying attention to me, and I didn't want the employees to think I needed help.
*It was so, so weird. It seems less weird writing it out, but in the moment -- yeah. So weird.
