I have Some Feelings
Mar. 20th, 2021 06:38 amFinished watching Douluo Continent this week, and I have Some Feelings About That.
*Did not love that more spiders were featured (around episode 30, I think? when they go to another forest). Was it easier to CGI spiders than anything else? Did it seem like the killing would be less objectionable if it was a spider versus something cute and fuzzy? ANYWAY spiders are scary; I had to close my eyes a lot.
*No women died in this show! (There was an alarming lack of moms in general, along with moms who were alarming, but all of the alive women who were introduced remained alive at the end of the series.) ((I am thinking really hard to make sure I'm not forgetting anyone. But I'm pretty sure!))
*The ending... sure was something? There were so many loose threads introduced; it was obvious they weren't going to be able to wrap everything up, but I admit I thought they might wrap up a *few* more of them.
*Just so many questions about the timeline... But vague source material is a friend of fanfic writers, so I guess that works! I thought the 'reveals' we did get had been nicely foreshadowed and were satisfyingly in line with the character development.
*Yes I did watch some of the animated show, which has some interesting ideas (and no huge spiders at all so far! I am much less scared of snakes!), but mostly it made me appreciate how non-sexualized the women's outfits were in the live-action.
