workaday Wednesday
Sep. 15th, 2021 06:01 amI've been idly wondering about the age of the newest person to join our team at work -- they seem to be somewhere in that vague 'maybe older than me, but maybe not?' mystery zone. Yesterday we ended up being the first people in the team check-in call, and they asked how my day had gone, and I said, "Well, as someone once wisely told me, Tuesdays are hard, Wednesdays are better."
And this person was like, ... ::confused expression:: ... 'I've never heard that before. I don't get it'
So now I feel much more confident in guessing that they are older than me, and outside the millennial cohort.
'Tuesdays are hard, Wednesdays are better' isn't something you need to 'get.' It's a feeling. An instinct. It resonates with your experience of existence. It's a joke, but also completely serious. It acknowledges the often-bleak landscape of the present while still offering hope for a better future. It's a way to say 'I'm counting the days till the weekend' that probably won't get you in trouble with your boss. Is it ridiculous? Is it profound? Sure. Why not? It's Wednesday now; it's getting better all the time.
