workaday Thursday
May. 4th, 2023 06:54 amBIG NEWS! Today's company meeting has been POSTPONED, and I am VERY SUSPICIOUS. To be fair, I have a long history of reading too much into these things, but workplace conspiracy theories are an essential part of the workplace experience, so I say, why NOT read too much into things? Go wild! Have fun!
My Probably Overblown Reasons For Suspicion:
*This is the SECOND postponment of this exact same meeting. Why the delay? These things usually follow a pretty cookie-cutter template.
*It was rescheduled for a MONDAY. To my recollection, this meeting his never been held on a Monday. What could require two weeks of delay AND be important enough that they couldn't wait an extra three days to put it on a Thursday?
*The newest meeting invite has not been sent, just an announcement that it WOULD be sent, and that announcement stated the meeting would include "some discussion." Don't like that. Discussion is not a standard part of these meetings -- there are slides, and there is Q&A, and then we all go on our way again.
My Sinking Dread That I Hope Will Not Happen:
You know what would make all those things make sense? If a whole lot of people are being fired on Friday.
An Equally Likely And Much More Funny Possibility:
But also consider that maybe someone high up in the company simply forgot to do their slides. Or is on vacation! Or that the meeting room tech hasn't all gotten switched over yet, so half the on-site people wouldn't be able to join. Or that whoever owned the presentation template had it stored in google drive and now they have to fix all the formatting errors that popped up when it got transferred to whatever microsoft's cloud is called. (The cloud? It's been weeks and I still don't understand what sharepoint is, and now I'm scared to ask.)
