These days, whenever I run into someone I knew before my new job (or meet someone new *at* my new job), the conversation always seems to include some variation of this:

“So, how are you liking the job? Is it awesome? Are you loving it?”

(Some of the people at my new job are very, very enthusiastic.)

And I’m always sort of — not sure how to answer? I mean, there are true answers I can think of:

*It’s about what I expected.
*There are things I love about it, one of which is that it’s not my old job.
*I don’t regret my decision to take it.
*No, but love is complicated, and I’m good with it.

It’s just that my *ideal* job description is probably “hermit with internet access,” and I can’t even figure out how to rent an apartment with what I’m making *now*, let alone on hermit wages. And I don’t have any burning passion to be doing something else, so I mostly just feel really lucky, tempered with a sense of confusion, or sometimes unease.

(But usually I just say, “Yeah, absolutely, it’s great. Really nice people.”)
