The thing I’m enjoying about the Guardian web series (okay, ONE of the things I’m enjoying) is that 90% of the time the characters are just going along like this is a supernatural crime drama romance (with jokes) and then all of a sudden one of them will pause the action and say something like:

‘Fear leads to a cycle of oppression and rebellion that only understanding can ever hope to quell.’

And everyone else is all solemn nods, like, ‘Big mood, bro.’

(Also, in the ‘let’s go camping’ episode, when Chu gives his whole exposition about maps and stuff, there’s a moment when Zhao Yunlan looks at him like, ‘That’s more words than you’ve said to me ever and I’m 100% going to tell the team about it,’ and Chu looks back like, ‘They’ll never believe you,’ and it was solid gold.)
