marcicat: (agh a monster)

First, let me say, I love a good outrage. Things like inconsiderate drivers, Panera being out of my favorite breakfast souffle, or a single comment from a tv news reporter can send me into an outrage that is loud and lasting. Which is why, I guess, I’m so confused about the outrage over Netflix.

I signed up for Netflix in 2007 (ages and ages ago!), and it cost $14.99 per month. Back then, as far as I remember, it was *just* dvds. None of this streaming stuff. (*And* we walked to school every day! No, just kidding about that part.)

So for four and a half years, that price never went up. In fact, for a long time they actually charged me $13.99 instead, and I still don’t know why. (Thanks, Netflix!) But unlimited streaming got better and better, and the selection has really expanded. Now the price is going up — for me, it’s now $19.98.

I still don’t feel outraged. That same month I started Netflix? I paid $2.31 per gallon for gasoline. I can’t think of a single expense that hasn’t gone up since 2007, so yeah, I can understand why Netflix might be raising their prices. And I kind of think it makes sense to disconnect the two services.

Anyway. There are a lot of outrageous things in the world — I’m just not sure a Netflix price increase is one of them.
