It is common at my workplace to continue checking email while on vacation -- not REQUIRED, of course, but they like you to feel like you're ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to the daily functioning of the company right up until they reorganize and your position is eliminated, so it's one of those 'if you feel like your job just Doesn't Need To Be Done while you go on vacation, that's up to you!' situations.

I personally think it's awful, and usually get around having to say that by going hiking for my vacations, and telling people I won't have any internet or phone service. For various reasons, this vacation was spent at home, which was great! I enjoyed it very much! And I did not check my work email AT ALL!

So this morning I'll be logging back in to see what all has happened in the past five days. ::cue nervous laughter::
