workaday Wednesday
Sep. 7th, 2022 06:04 amWork is sort of a -- I don't even know what word to pick, at the moment. Several people in positions of power decided to improve a major work process, which conceptually is a great idea. The rollout has gone something like this:
Important People: 'There you go, we fixed it.'
Minions: 'This is just an electronic form. What is the new process?'
Important People: 'Use the form.'
Minions: '...The same way we used the old form?'
Important People: 'No, a different way. Now you do it twice. We need less information, but you should provide more information if you want the form to be approved. It's up to you, really!'
Essentially, we now have a process that may or may not be improved, with very little understanding of how it's meant to work. The directions we've received are conceptually sound but operationally extremely murky. So (as per usual) the minions are left trying to desperately piece together some sort of logical framework to support the lofty notions of the important folks. Good times.
