(for context, this was a meeting about preparing for an annual document check)
People I'm supposed to be helping: 'Here's the list of all the things we were flagged for not having last time.'
Me: 'So it looks like one big category is certificates that were on file but were expired.'
People: 'Yes!'
Me (because hope springs eternal): 'I think we can use the computer system to help track those, so we can try to update them before we get in trouble for not having them.'
Me Again (extremely optimistically): 'But we'll want to cross-check the system to make sure it's correctly identifying the things that need the certificates.'
Still Me (starting to get concerned by the reaction I was seeing to what I felt was a pretty logical statement): 'I mean, I'll do that part. I just wanted to be shared on whatever list you're using now.'
People: 'There isn't one.'
Me (weeping internally): 'There isn't one?'
Everyone: '...'
