I got an email on Monday (a holiday!) telling me "The Census Bureau is asking for you to participate in a survey, called the Household Pulse Survey." Which honestly sounded like a scam, but the internet assured me it was probably legit. It's been chilling in my inbox ever since, because I couldn't decide whether to delete it or take the survey, and I figured that was a decision I could put off for a while.
Today (only TWO DAYS later!) I got a second email, with the subject line "Closing Soon: Respond to Your Census Bureau Survey". And I thought hmm, maybe you only get a work week to reply? I could do it, I guess.
But then! I opened the email, and it says the survey is "only available until March 4, 2024." That's a full two weeks! Most notably, only TWO DAYS have gone by since the original notification, and TWELVE DAYS remain in the survey window. I wouldn't call that "closing soon," relative to the amount of time passed so far. Especially since creating a false sense of urgency is ALSO a sign of a scam. But ANYWAY, that's my civic story for the week.
