Things I remember about how to play Battleship Exchange from my one (1) year of experience:
*it was fun!
*it helped to sign up with a friend! (aka a built-in audience for any and all writing shenanigans I managed to create)
*it motivated me to write some things!
I do realize none of those are about how to play. Because I can't actually remember much about that??? It seemed very complicated before it started, and then it all was much clearer once it was happening, but it went very quickly and much of it was a blur of writing and laughing about tags.
