Me, looking at the forecast for today, which includes a high temp that's a boggling 24F degrees above average: so... no long underwear?

Date: 2025-04-19 05:00 pm (UTC)I'm in central Illinois. One day in March this year, it was 83F, which yeah, is about 20 degrees hotter than normal. Last year it hit 100F in May, which is more like 30 degrees hotter.

Warm: Wear thinner fabrics, but include an outer layer in case the temperature drops.
Hot: Wear thinner fabrics in lighter colors. Short sleeves and shorts are good if you won't be stuck in direct sun. Prefer looser garments that allow for airflow. Sunguard fabric is worth a try if you can find it.
It's easy to grab the wrong thing that is too heavy, out of habit, when you've been dressing for colder weather. I'm at that time of year where I have to look twice at pants and make sure I'm not picking up something that is fuzzy or made from sweatshirt material or whatever.

For clothing inspiration, I recommend The Vivienne Files, which has posts about clothing sets for different themes, weather conditions, etc. The author is very fond of layering garments to account for changes in weather. Plus the posts are just beautiful to look at.
