day 8: how auspicious!

Fandom: Last Binding Series (Freya Marske)
Pairing/Characters: Elsie Alston & Jack Alston
Content Notes: It's an AU! IN SPACE! But still with magic!
Prompt: cleaning up after [event/incident]
Edwin told them what happened. As much as he'd been able to piece together, at least. Walt had requested meeting, said he'd come across some research materials he had no use for. He'd said all the right things to make Edwin think he was only interested in the usual casual gloating disguised as familial reunion.
And then Edwin had woken up in a freighter ship headed for a mining station, and the Sutton, along with Walt, had been gone.
Jack spent the meeting watching Robin Blyth, the only one of the group he'd yet to work with. To say he hadn't taken Edwin's explanation well would be an understatement along the lines of 'space is large.' He'd spent half the explanation sketching in a small notebook, and the other half carefully and quietly ripping whatever he'd sketched into shreds. Then he'd scooped the shreds into his pocket and left the room, all without saying a word.
"It's part of his process," Maud had said to no one in particular, before hurrying after him.
Edwin had muttered something about needing rest, and had left in the opposite direction. Probably to go chat up a tree or something.
"Well," Elsie said, after the room cleared out. "That was interesting. Process of what, do you think?"
Alan shrugged, and Jack shook his head. "I've no idea. Maud adores him, but she's very good at talking a lot while saying very little. He's not known as an artist, though."
Elsie swept her gaze around the room again, lingering on the spot where Edwin had been sitting. She said, "More importantly, do we have any idea at all why Walter Courcey would be going around trying to disrupt ship bonds?"
They didn't. But they were going to need to come up with a way to find out.
