silver lining
Aug. 7th, 2012 08:33 pmIn the middle of July, a sign popped up on my way to work. It said, essentially: HEY DRIVERS! THE TOWN’S (FINALLY) GOING TO FIX THE BRIDGE. ROAD’S GONNA BE CLOSED TILL AUGUST 3RD. LOL THX!
Those may not have been the exact words.
Since that was my favorite way to get to work, I was pretty much counting the days until the 3rd. As one might imagine, given that I’m posting this on August 7th, the bridge repair didn’t exactly go as planned.
Now the sign says this: WHOOPS. KIND OF A BIGGER JOB THAN WE EXPECTED. RAN OUT OF MONEY. PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE FIXED THIS EARLIER, HUH? (And then the direct quote: “ROAD CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.”)
The silver lining, because of course there had to be one, is that this is a town that has all these crazy little back roads that pride themselves on being unchartable. But now there’s these actual (big, bright, orange) detour signs leading the way through the maze.
(My goal is to find a way into work that will be good for snowy driving — not too many hills!)
