I posted back on August 7th about the BRIDGE on my way to work that was closed. Here’s the story thus far:

1. Bridge needs repairs. City shuts down bridge for 3 wks to repair.

2. City rips up bridge, realizes bridge needs a LOT more repairs than expected. Too expensive. Do nothing.

3. SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS REVOLT.

4. City does *something* to bridge.

5. Bridge reopens.

Part of my brain was all ‘woohoo! bridge is open!’ But another part was more ‘wait just a minute here…’ Is the bridge safe, or what?

I drove on it today, and as I approached, I saw another car coming in the opposite direction. ‘Ooh, I’ll just wait till they cross,’ I thought to myself. ‘That way I’ll have visual confirmation that the bridge is safe(ish)!’ So I slowed down. And the other car slowed down. So I slowed down more. So did they.

Ultimately, we both (slowly) crossed the bridge. It seemed fine. (Thanks for helping me check the bridge, yellow car from today!)

The politics of bridge repair still confuse me.

Bridge repair is government spending that doesn't shovel money into the hands of the 1%. Government spending that doesn't etc is evil. Therefore, bridge repair is evil. *nod*
