sometimes the long game is *too long*
Jul. 29th, 2011 07:56 pmStill thinking about Children of Dune. The problem I have with their whole “plots within plots” thing is that, well, eventually entropy will end everything. That whole grand plan to have humanity live on forever, free of the burden of predestination? Gonzo. Which just goes to show, sometimes the long game is too long. Like, *way* too long.
Here’s my second problem, because clearly I understand everything I ever need to know about the Dune universe by watching one made-for-tv miniseries and skimming a couple of wikipedia entries. As far as I can tell, they didn’t actually get rid of predestination. They just made it so no one could see it. Which is… less like ‘freeing humanity’ and sort of more like ‘my dad abandoned me and my sister when we were born because of his visions, and I’m still really pissed off about it.’
My third problem is that I still have no idea why it’s called the golden path, but it sounds sort of pretentious, not unlike the Dune-ian hats.
My fourth problem is that I really, really want there to be a happy ending, and apparently the Herberts skip over all those parts.
