computers are mysterious!
Apr. 17th, 2013 08:22 amFor reasons unknown to me, the internet has been very slow around our house lately. (This makes tumblin’ less fun, but it’s happened before and resolved itself. We think.)
At work, the computers are pretty much always slow. Which is fine, until the boss tries to use one. ”This is really slow!” is the usual reaction. (“Yes,” we say. ”We know.”)
But the boss really only knows of one reason why computers might be slow — DANGEROUS VIRUSES! So every time he tries to use one, and it’s slow, he blames us for infecting them with DANGEROUS VIRUSES (in all our spare time? IDEK) and starts these anti-virus scans running in the background. Which slow things down even more, naturally.
It never seems to occur to him that perhaps it is simply that the computer he was trying to use was purchased in 1994, and therefore will be slower than the fancy super!Mac that he runs in his own office. Nearly TWO DECADES separate the technology. In computer years, that’s practically a geological age.
(Spoiler alert: sometimes, slow things are just slow.)
