work addendum
May. 13th, 2015 07:55 amSo I spend plenty of time complaining about work, but in many ways, I actually find the troubles and travails of my managers reassuring.
Before I was ever a manager myself, I looked at my bosses and thought ‘surely I could do better than this.’ (To be fair, in some cases this was 100% true.) And yet once I became a manager, I never actually did as well as I wanted.
I struggled, a lot. I did my best and never thought it turned out that well. I didn’t like who I was as a person when I was being a manager, and never could figure out how to balance them. I felt like I was just really bad at leadership.
As it turns out, now that I’m back on the other end of the minion spectrum, with a much more objective observational eye, most people are! Which turns out to be an enormous relief!
