marcicat: (hug it out)

I mean, Civil War? Huge deal in the comics!verse, I get it. But in the MCU? Unless they’re using the name to describe something very different, I’m just not following.

1. Tony and Steve are not friends. The most friendly thing they’ve ever done onscreen in the MCU is shake hands. In AOU they didn’t even fight bad guys together; they were almost always separate. They haven’t spent decades building a history together; they’ve known each other for three years, and as far as the MCU shows, spent most of it not interacting in any way.

2. Natasha already dumped all of SHIELD’s files onto the internet. None of them have a secret identity. And they haven’t exactly been building ties with the larger masked hero community. The movies, at least, haven’t even acknowledged their existence. (I know Agents of SHIELD has done more with this, but I haven’t followed the show carefully enough to comment.)

3. It just seems like any emotional impact of the Civil War arc is significantly diminished in the MCU, and the super-compressed timeline makes the whole scenario make less sense than ever, and that’s saying something.

4. Also, this:
“It was later discovered that, while his body was killed, Rogers’ essence was “locked into a fixed point in space and time”. Rogers’ mind was being transported through time, forcing him to relive certain segments of his life such as World War II and becoming Captain America as well in various other scenes. While reliving the Kree-Skrull War, he was able to ask the Vision to record a message about his time travel condition to Mister Fantastic and Wasp (Henry Pym) in the future, which was duly relayed by the current Vision (Jonas).”
