muscle memory
Aug. 26th, 2015 08:26 amI try not to save my login passwords (okay, with some exceptions) because:
1. I figure it’s probably good brain exercise to try to remember them.
2. It helps a lot when I try to log in from somewhere else and *have* to remember.
3. I feel it adds to my quirky persona at work.
But it always surprises me how much I’m not actually remembering the visual characters as much as the physical motion my fingers are making. This was huge when I was working from home, because at work I have a full-size keyboard with a number pad, and at home I’m kicking back with the macbook. All of a sudden things I’d had memorized forever were just gone. (At one point I had to sketch out a number pad and pretend I was typing on it to figure out an account number.)
Which I guess is a long way of saying I had no idea my fingers were doing so much of the work I thought my eyes were doing! Good job, fingers!
