marcicat: (rainbow owl)

In the past month or so, I’ve had probably five people ask me if I’m a vegetarian. When I say no, the reaction has universally been some variation on ‘I thought you were.’

Never having made any claim of being vegetarian, this has been somewhat baffling. But it always seems to require some additional explanation on my part, and I think I’ve finally figured out a good one-line answer.

“Are you a vegetarian?”
“No.”
“Oh, I thought you were.”
“No, I’m just lazy.”

Whether this makes as much sense to other people as it does to me (meat is harder to prepare, and much more tricky in terms of food safety), or if it just confuses people enough so they stop asking about it, it does seem to work!
