marcicat: (today I eat cake)

1. walk it out

It turned out snowshoes were not required — the snow had melted down to bare ground in a few places, and it was packed down enough everywhere else that it was easy to walk on. (I did appreciate my gaiters, though, when I did some trailblazing and they kept me from getting snow in my boots.)

There was a great moment when I was walking along over this maybe-two-inches of hard packed snow, and two snowmobiles went past. (We all waved, everyone had plenty of space, it was all very cordial.) But all I could think of was those news parodies where a reporter is covering flooding from a canoe, and then someone just walks by in the background. And then I was picturing the whole thing happening with snowstorm coverage, and *then* the snowmobiles passed me again, going the opposite way, and we all waved again, and it was just — a very fun moment.
