workaday Thursday
May. 17th, 2018 05:02 amMy workplace is trying to introduce 360-degree reviews, even though right now it’s really more like ‘your manager reviews you, and you review your manager!’ Which isn’t… exactly the same thing.
When I was a manager, I asked for this once — all the employees reviewed me. It was awful. I don’t know what I expected. I swore to never ask again.
So I have somewhat conflicted feelings about reviewing my manager now. Objectively, I can see how the train of logic led us to this point. Subjectively, getting reviews from my employees made me feel horrible, and I don’t want to make anyone else feel that way.
Right now I am still in the drafting stage. There aren’t that many questions, but they’re all super vague and jargon-y, so it’s taking some time.
Handy Tip: It was strongly suggested that answers be in the Start / Stop / Continue format, which I’d never actually heard of, but seems to be a pretty good way to prompt specific examples and keep me from rambling.
