One of my neighbors has put up a new flag. It took me several minutes of staring to figure out what it was — Santa’s beard? A turkey?

Finally I realized it’s supposed to be a cornucopia. But there’s this big white circle involved, because — I wish I was kidding, but it’s true — the cornucopia is empty. There are a few things scattered around it (gourds? the flag is on the 3rd floor and I was looking at it from the ground, so I’m not entirely sure), but the horn of plenty itself is completely lacking in plentifulness.

I have no idea what to make of that.

Florida recap day 1

*Andrea and I went to Florida! Our flight out wasn’t until the evening, so I had plenty of time in the morning to do stuff. It seems like it was a long time ago now, so I’m not sure what stuff actually got done, but probably something. Oh! I went to the hardware store for kitty litter and trash bags, and the grocery store for sliced cheese: both critical errands.

The flight itself was cold but happily uneventful. *Andrea was going to tell me a story about airplane tray tables, but we never came back to it. Florida was as warm and lovely as expected when we arrived, and I made a joke* about palm trees that ultimately led to me getting a bedazzled palm tree magnet later in the trip.

(*This trip happened to coincide with several of my coworkers attending a work conference in Vegas, and I was explaining that they would surely come back saying they “didn’t have time” to see anything. And I attempted to illustrate the ludicrousness of such a statement by comparing it to going to Florida and saying you didn’t have time to see any palm trees. It wasn’t that funny, but it made me laugh, in the way that many things do when it’s late at night and I’ve survived another plane ride.)

Biggest surprise: our hotel room was the mirror-image of last year’s room, which was A) awesome, and B) completely confusing.
