it's haircut day!
Feb. 27th, 2021 07:03 amHaircut day was going to be Wednesday, because I took the day off for dentist-related reasons and I figured I'd have time. But then an Unexpected Maintenance Visit happened and the day spiraled from there, and it made sense to say 'you know what, I'll just take care of this Thursday before work.'
So then it was going to be Thursday before work, except the Unexpected Maintenance Visit left me with Unexplained Water-Heater-Related Leaking, and I was somewhat concerned about taking a shower in case the leaking became more serious. (I don't know anything about water heaters! I didn't want to stress it!) And since taking a post-haircut shower is An Important Part of the process for me, it made sense to say 'you know what, there'll be plenty of time after work.'
So then it was going to be Thursday after work, except I got scheduled for an after-hours meeting (grr) and also the cat was Not Happy with all the disruptions, and to be fair, I was not either, so it made sense to push the haircut plans to Friday.
So then there was Friday, and -- as often happens on Fridays -- all my imagined plans faded in the face of the 'let's just get through this day, please, and then figure everything else out on the weekend' Friday feeling.
And now the weekend is here! YAY!!! My hair is pretty long (for me) right now, so that's always exciting. It's very wild-looking at the moment -- my hair's cowlick game is Very Determined. It's one of those stages where I look in the mirror and think 'eh, it's okay.' Objectively speaking, I can recognize that it looks fine. Cute, even! And sometimes people tell me they like it, which, sure, that feels nice.
But it also reminds me of when I used to get my hair cut by actual professionals, and I always had the same 'eh, it's okay' feeling when they were done, and I just figured that was how it was. People said it looked nice, and a professional did it, so it must have been good.
But NOW! Now I cut my own hair with clippers, and I cut it as short as I want, and I am here to say, when I look in the mirror afterwards, I think 'YES, that's right, that's me, there I am!' And maybe it doesn't look as nice, but it looks like me.
Which is all a very long way of saying, it's haircut day! Woohoo!
