audiobook ramblings
Feb. 28th, 2026 08:36 amI have now finished listening to 'The Long Game' (aka hockey boys book 6, by Rachel Reid)! Admittedly, I did not listen to all of it very closely. But I do have Some Thoughts, in No Particular Order:
*ANYA! Best dog, cutest dog, etc, etc. The whole 'invite Ilya to dinner so we can sneakily introduce him to this dog that needs a good home' thing was very fun for me.
*Look, I am all in favor of therapy as a concept. I think being able to assess your emotional state and talk about your feelings are valuable skills. And I understand that a story about fictional hockey players has no responsibility to accurately represent the experience of talking to a therapist about depression. (HAVING SAID ALL OF THAT: I feel like that was a really bad representation of therapy.)
*BACK TO THINGS I LIKED! Aww, Coach Wiebe is so great!
*The whole book was a really interesting look at figuring out who you want to be when you grow up. And community. There was a lot about different kinds of groups and how people grow into them or out of them over time.
*I'm glad I read it! And I'm glad to go back to fanfic now!
