life imitating life
Mar. 27th, 2013 08:19 amBack in 2008, I wrote a nanowrimo novel called Dragon in the Room (which I would totally link to, except that googledocs is causing me 99 problems right now, and one of them is that apparently I’m the only one who can see my files despite carefully checking and rechecking my settings).
Anyway, the story includes a high school reunion (which it turns out facebook is sort of like, though possibly less awkward than actually seeing people face to face). But it was getting towards the end of the month when I was writing it, and I didn’t have a ton of time left to make up a bunch of characters (nor did I have the inclination to do so, let’s be honest), so I just had the main character not remember anyone.
“Are you sure you actually went to this school?” After the fifth person said hello and Harold didn’t recognize them (and still didn’t recognize three of them, even after he’d read their nametags), Harold was beginning to wonder the same thing.
(MORE TRUE THAN I REALIZED! I mean, I sort of recognize peoples’ names, but really, I’m starting to wonder.)
