marcicat | my sunglasses finally broke!

More than five years ago (before my current job, so I know it was at least that long — I’d guess maybe 2005?) I bought a pair of sunglasses. Actually, two pairs!

One was slightly nicer, but both were in the super-cheapo range of less than ten dollars. Naturally, the nicer pair broke before that first summer was over.

The second pair has lasted SO LONG. Every summer I think ‘this summer they’ll finally break and I’ll get to buy new ones!’ BUT NO. The paint chipped off, the lenses got scratched, but they steadfastly did not break. I tossed them in my backpack and forgot about them — totally fine. I had them perched on top of my hat, took the hat off, and sent them flying across the room — totally fine. Even accidentally left them in the car on the hottest days of the summer — still fine.

Today they were fine on my drive to work, and they sat (as far as I know, sedately) on the console all day. But when I got in the car this evening — one of the rims around the lens was cracked. ‘Yes!’ I thought. It’s possible I said it out loud; the person in the car next to me gave me sort of a funny look.
