A note to my future self:
If you’re ever in charge of a group of people (or just a part of the group — heck, even if you are observing a group from outside), and things seem to be running smoothly, it would behoove you to recognize that this is most likely due to the efforts of the people involved.
Sample of what *not* to say:
“The business basically runs itself.”
Reality check:
My current boss says this a lot. He seems to think it is a compliment, or at the very least, not nearly as insulting as I find it. Because no, the business does not “run itself.” People run it. Us. We run the business.
