$100

Each time I drive to work, I pass a house with a handwritten sign taped to the mailbox. The sign reads: $100

It’s exactly the kind of sign you might see on a piece of furniture out by the road, or some other item for sale in someone’s yard. (Though to be fair, usually the sign would say FREE, or some variation of that, like FREE TOMATOES, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE CHAIR.)

But there’s nothing around this sign that appears to be for sale. Are they selling their mailbox? If so, why? Maybe they’re just asking for $100 to be put in the box. Maybe there already *is* $100 in the box, and they’re waiting for someone to take it.

Anyway, it’s all very interesting at 8:45 in the morning.

That does seem interesting! Is it even the homeowners that put it up? Does the mail carrier know what it means? How does s/he feel about it? I think after driving past it so many times, I would be compelled to knock on the door and ask. OR! Better yet, put a not on the sign. A post it saying you're interested in purchasing, but you'd like to verify if it is the mail box, its contents, the house itself, or some type of service thats being sold for $100. Or you know, perhapse it's some charm, the sign is willing $100 to come to the homeowners through the mail. I am now tempted to put up such a sign on my mail box to make people wonder these things, (perhapse this is the true purpouse of the sign) but alas, I do not have a free standing mail box.
