security!fail

On my first day at new!job, they gave me a security card to badge in at the electronic badge reader thingamajig at the door. Since there are technically 4 buildings at 3 different addresses, I felt it was logical to ask if my badge would work at all of them.
(Note: The reaction to this question was wary suspicion. I attempted to make myself seem harmless afterwards by asking if it was safe to store the card in my wallet, because golly gee, who knows how those things work?)
Anyway, I was told that my badge would only work at the two buildings at the address my job is actually located at, which I accepted without any fuss.
But then I wound up scheduled for a meeting at another address. And I thought, why not *try* my badge? I figured it was super unlikely that it would zap me with an electric shock, or get me fired, or anything.
Yeah, it totally opened the door. The badges are not site-specific.
(Just in case it was a mistake, I didn’t actually tell IT.)
