The JACKALOPE. At first I was doubtful about including an animal that is not so much mythical as ‘made up as a lark to fleece tourists.’ But it turns out the jackalope has a rich history of ridiculousness, actual mythological shout-outs, and a Pixar short film! (At least according to the internet.)

Plus, this: “In 2005, the state legislature of Wyoming considered a bill to make the jackalope the state’s official mythological creature.”

(Because really, what state *doesn’t* need an official mythological creature?)

And so, the jackalope:

I kinda feel like this Pixar jackalope is unimpressed. I know that feel, buddy.

Still one of my favorite Pixar shorts - I actually have that one downloaded for carrying around. :D

I will admit I was deeply confused by the Pixar jackalope, and spent years being quietly uncertain whether or not it was, in fact, a real animal.
