marcicat | movie review: Jupiter Ascending

I went into this movie expecting to enjoy it the same way I typically expect to enjoy fanfic that includes the tag “space opera au.” Instead, I am pleased to say I LOVED THIS MOVIE.

Four for you, Jupiter Ascending. Ten out of ten, would view again. I mean, this is a movie that said, “You know what our viewers want? SPACE ROLLERBLADES. You know what our viewers don’t care about? EXPOSITION.” I am obviously this movie’s target audience.

Sure, you can take the time to piece together the plot. There’s plenty of information provided to do so, plus this handy fanfic (Memory of Blood, by DawningStar) that clearly explains the throat-ripping-out backstory for anyone who was too distracted by SPACE ROLLERBLADES to catch it in the theater.

Or, you can simply enjoy the fact that we finally, finally have a movie that has a SPACE BEEKEEPER, and SPACE ROLLERBLADES, and a SPACE WOLF WITH WINGS, and also KIZA and JUPITER JONES and SPACE COPS, because basically I think this movie was great and I will not be dissuaded.
