maybe I was out that day
Apr. 3rd, 2011 06:30 pm1. School taught me how to count on my fingers, so I know I spent about 17 years as a student — starting with kindergarten (because pre-school was more of the singing and fingerpainting style) and running through four years of university.
2. School taught me how to get things done in a certain way: get a stack of “things to do,” then power through them via enormous applications of time and energy, and voila! Graduation! Things to do drop to zero, indicating winning. You can do it year after year.
3. I’ve had some trouble applying that model to my post-school life with any success, since it seems to set winning equal to death. Awkward, to say the least.
4. Finding a workable and enjoyable “running to do list” strategy has become somewhat of a mission: impossible project. I’m working on it, but with limited success.
5. On that note, I think it’s time to clean the mirror. (It’s on my list, after all.)
