marcicat: nano mug (nano mug)
[personal profile] marcicat

I am not a silverware connoisseur. I don’t even know if it’s supposed to be called silverware or flatware. But in my formative years, there were two kinds of forks: regular, and mini (aka “dessert forks”). I always assumed the dessert forks were smaller to match the size of the dessert plates, and to make the dessert itself last longer.

This level of fork knowledge has served me well for years. However! In the kitchen at my workplace, we have a somewhat slapdash assortment of eating utensils. Including forks, except that instead of regular and mini, we have regular and *giant-sized.*

What is the purpose of these giant-sized forks? Is there a whole genre of eating I’ve been missing out on all this time? Did we somehow accidentally end up with abnormally large forks? It’s not something I can just ask — it doesn’t exactly arise naturally in conversation. (“How was your weekend? Good? Mine too. Say, do these forks seem… unusually large to you?”) Totally not cool.

(Note: It wouldn’t be a big deal if we had a reasonable number of each type of fork. But no — we have *one* normal-sized fork, and all the rest are huge.)

Basically, there’s no point to this ramble. Except to say, “Why so large, work forks?”
